is fantastic… if you’re into music that goes well with or prefaces mid day naps and melancholy reflections.
I am. Deeply.
(No, but seriously. It’s great and you can listen to it for free if you click that link because it’s streaming on NPR. So…)
There was a wealthy man, middle-aged enough to be tolerant with a beautiful wife, to baby her whims and indulge her unreason, to wear her as she perhaps wished to be worn— a bright flower in his buttonhole, safe and secure from the things she feared.

You guys all missed the Q&A, but still…
Everyone go see SHIT YEAR - it’s at the IFC center now. It’s an incredible, mind-blowingly beautiful film. And my boss is in it. And she is fantastic.

i remember a conversation i had with my mom about someone she knew who had just been diagnosed with cancer during which i, (in retrospect,) very insensitively, asked “if you could cure cancer or AIDS, which would you cure?” before she could even deal with the fact that i knew what AIDS was, i answered my question, “id cure AIDS.”
i was eight or nine and i have no idea where i’d heard about AIDS, what exactly I knew about it, (or why i felt entitled to speak in such a lofty manner,) but i do know for sure that even then i understood the gravity and the severity of this disease.
i saw THE NORMAL HEART today, a play not only about AIDS in new york in the 80s, but about love and loss and strength. the cast is phenomenal* and it’s a poignant, moving and important reminder that AIDS is still relevant and that not enough is being done to fight it.
so, GO SEE IT! you can buy tickets here.
*also, they’re all like really really good looking: lee pace, joe mantello, eIIen barkin, jim parsons, et al. so, if you’re into hot guys with mustaches (lee), hot gay guys (joe), hot ladies (ellen), hot nerdy guys (jim), you should spend 2.5 hours looking at them… because a percentage of the ticket sales goes to charity.
my friend dia: the bigger question is why are you doing your own taxes?
my mom said go pay someone and have them do your taxes instead of paying for drinks this weekend
me: OMG DOES YOUR MOM LIKE THINK I DRINK A LOT???!!! PAYING SOMEONE COST ME $475 LAST YEAR!!
my friend dia: um no
